How many types of breast lift incisions are there, where are they located, and who is each type suitable for?

Sore around the nipple (Donut or Periareolar)

A perinoplasty breast lift involves making an incision along the edge of the areola. The doctor then removes excess skin around the areola and sutures it together to slightly lift the nipple and areola. This type of breast lift has a relatively short incision that can be hidden along the natural color of the areola. It is suitable for women with mild breast sagging who wish to adjust the nipple position or areola size.

Incision around the nipple combined with a vertical incision (Lollipop or Vertical).

The Lollipop or I-shaped incision breast lift is a surgical technique that uses an incision around the areola and a vertical scar extending down from the areola to the crease under the breast. This allows for greater breast reshaping or nipple repositioning and is suitable for women with moderate levels of sagging and excess skin.

T-shaped wound or anchor wound (Inverted T or Anchor)

In the T-shaped breast lift incision technique, which resembles a lollipop incision, an additional long incision is made beneath the breast fold. This technique allows the surgeon to remove a significant amount of excess skin, reshape the breasts, and reposition the nipples more effectively than other techniques. Therefore, it is suitable for women with significant breast sagging and a large amount of excess skin.

Which type of breast lift incision leaves the least scar?

For the least invasive breast lift procedure, the incisional technique (around the areola) is likely the best option. This is because there is only one incision, and the sutures can be easily hidden, blending seamlessly with the areola edge, making the scar virtually invisible. However, this technique is not suitable for everyone and depends on the severity of the individual’s problem.

Will breast lift scars fade?

Breast lift scars can fade over time depending on the body’s healing process. Generally, in the first 2-3 months after surgery, the scar will remain pink or red and may be slightly raised. After approximately 6-12 months, the scar will fade until it blends in with the skin and is barely visible. Therefore, it is crucial to follow your doctor’s instructions regarding wound care from the beginning to prevent the formation of raised scars in the long term.
